I'm not sure if everyone is aware, but Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC are UFO hotspots. There are frequent reports of the orange orbs being seen both over land and coming in from the seas. On occasion MUFON has even received reports from witnesses saying they have seen them come out of the ocean. Encounters UFO Experience (http://ufoexhibition.com/) also recently opened at Broadway at the Beach.
I have spoken to a few people and read many reports from the area about these sightings. There are even two different Youtube.com channels dedicated to these frequent sightings. Joe Kiernan (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYS_irLajkGTUa6h9RgqVug) reports having sightings continuously over the last few years. I've spoken to Brandon Brodsky(http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6SxZ6tkoSYaufASpU8yrmA), and he along with several friends have had several UFO sightings together. After receiving so many reports from this area I decided to go and see for myself.
On Friday night, August 31, 2013 my family and I drove to Myrtle Beach, SC to spend time with relatives. That evening after everyone else went to bed, I decided I would take a chair, night vision goggles, my video camera and my tripod, and spend a couple of hours just looking out over the sea. I set up in front of River City Cafe 11 N Seaside Dr Surfside Beach, SC 29575. I arrived at 10:30 PM and I had planned to stay till 1:00 AM. There was a light breeze and it was partly cloudy. I was getting chilly around 1:00 PM, but I decided to stay a little longer just in case. At 1:30 AM Saturday September 1, 2013 I started packing up. I put away my tripod, my night vision goggles, closed the video camera and I folded up my chair. As I turned and looked back toward the parking lot, I saw something orange coming toward my position from inland. I stared at it for about 3 seconds trying to determine if it was an airplane. Once it got to about 100 - 120 feet above me it took a sharp left turn and followed the coast North toward Myrtle beach. I dropped all the things I was carrying and I hurried to open up the video camera to try and get it on film. This may have taken me about 4 seconds to open, let it start, and try to zoom in on it. Unfortunately I was too late. It had moved too far up the coast to get it on film.
I can tell you that my goal was to try to look for something that may look like a UFO, but may have been something explainable like Chinese lanterns or flares. I now know that it was NOTHING like that. What I saw was an orb about 3 to 4 feet in diameter. It came relatively close above me. The center of the orb seemed to be a darker color. It looked like a distinctive red center. I also got the impression that it was made of glass because it had a very well-defined edge.
I understand that if you have never personally had your own UFO sighting, it is easy to dismiss the sightings of others. You assume that the witness may have just been mistaken about what he or she has seen. The above is the most accurate description I can give you of what I saw. I don't claim to know what it was. I can only tell you it was unlike anything I have ever seen. I have used Chinese lanterns and I have seen flares. This object was neither.
